What are the 5 main parts of an essay

Parts of an essay

We have all heard about the three basic components of an essay while learning the essay structures. Everyone knows that an essay traditionally has

  1. An introduction
  2. A body
  3. A conclusion
  4. However, there are two other important components that students ignore while composing their essay. These are the:

  5. Title of the essay
  6. Outline of the essay

To put them in the right order, the first thing in your essay is the title of your essay. After you have the title, you do your research, gather the data, and create an outline. When you have the outline, you start writing your essay. The first paragraph in your essay is the introduction, followed by 3-5 body paragraphs. Finally, when you have all the important points explained in the body, you have to summarize them in your conclusion, which is the last paragraph of your essay.

Here is an explanation of what each of these parts is about:

  1. An interesting title
  2. A great topic that can engage readers is must for a good essay

  3. The outline of your essay
  4. The outline is supposed to act as the backbone of your essay. It is a plan or map of the essay

  5. The introduction paragraph
  6. This is the opening of your essay where you present your topic to the reader. Do not start with a dictionary definition if you want to make a good impression. The introduction needs to show what the rest of essay will talk about and it should be able to hook your reader to read more.

  7. The body of the essay
  8. Ideally, there are three body paragraphs in an essay. You can choose to write more if you have more major arguments. Each paragraph is supposed to represent a unique idea or major argument in your essay. These also include the supporting evidence for each paragraph or argument.

  9. Finally, the conclusion of your essay
  10. The last thing in your essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is where you summarize your essay. It is important to stay precise and avoid repetition in this ending paragraph. A conclusion cannot contain any new ideas that are apart from those mentioned in the body. Similarly, you cannot miss any important point from the body in your conclusion. This is very critical portion of your essay, which extracts down the rest of your work.
